Technology Tools to Support Hebrew Proficiency Presenter: Mark Dohn
How can technology help an instructor to become more efficient and effective in Hebrew? How can we support our students through more engaging and personally relevant activities? This session will focus not only some of the latest tools that are available but how they can be used in the classroom. This session is designed for teachers working with grades 3-8. Technology Skill Level: Beginning/Intermediate; BRING a tablet or laptop to this session. Devices will not be provided.
Mark Dohn is a digital storyteller, technology integration specialist and educational consultant for creating 21st century learning environments. He was a technology teacher and coordinator for fifteen years in the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) and has an MS in Education Media Design and Technology from Full Sail University. In addition to his teaching, Mark is part of a core group of global Apple Distinguished Educators who advocate for the use of mobile devices and apps for students with learning disabilities. Mark bridges the gap between general and special education by placing an emphasis on equity in the classroom that focuses on technology integration, Universal Design for Learning and Inclusive Design. Mark has been honored for his innovative and creative teaching style by Apple Inc. (Apple Distinguished Educator), the Los Angeles Unified School District (Innovation in the Classroom) and Computer Using Educators Los Angeles (CUELA Teacher of the Year). Outside the classroom He has worked for the educational nonprofit impossible2Possible (i2P) as Education Coordinator and was a participant on a ten-day expedition to the rainforest in the Brazilian Amazon to study biodiversity. During the expedition, the education team was able to connect live via satellite with over 15,000 students in six countries. New to the Greater Chicago area, Mark comes from Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he consulted as a Learning Specialist with the educational nonprofit Digital Promise in their Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (DPVILS) program. Mark also consulted with various institutions for technology integration, mobile learning and curriculum design for adjudicated and incarcerated youth in the greater Detroit area.
